We hope to see horses but mostly want to swim & shell. Take a scenic ferry ride to Shackleford Banks and enjoy great shelling, explore and look for the famous Shackleford Banks horses, bird watch, swim and/or sunbathe. Got us to and from the islands and even got to see dolphins playing during our cruise. Driving is not allowed on Shackleford Banks. 600 Front Street From Harker's Island, you can take a ferry to either location. A fire is not out until it is "cold and out" (can touch the coals with your bare hand). Are there bathrooms on Shackleford Banks? Pet size, breed, or training does not matter. Bring along all your gear including water, snacks, and bags for trash. Sidenote: Shackleford and Core used to be one island, until the hurricane of 1933 cut what became Barden's Inlet.
